Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Film festivals are important cultural and economic events that provide platforms for filmmakers to showcase their work, network, and gain recognition. For Kannywood, the Hausa-language film industry, these festivals are vital for promoting cultural narratives and expanding market reach (Ali & Abdullahi, 2023). In Wukari Local Government Area, Taraba State, the growing interest in film festivals reflects the rising popularity of Kannywood and its influence on cultural identity. These festivals not only boost local economic activity but also enhance the visibility and credibility of the industry on national and international stages.
